Recast a song into a new mode
Use Mode Forge to flip the emotion of a section without rewriting the melody.
Steps
- 1
Choose the section
Pick the phrase or section you want to recast — usually the bridge, where a change of color matters most.
- 2
Open Mode Forge
The tool shows the current progression and what each mode would sound like as you switch.
- 3
Listen to the shift
Recast an A-minor section to Dorian and the raised 6th turns a bleak F into a bright D. Same sadness, different temperature.
- 4
Commit & refine
Keep the change in place, then let the next section respond. Mode changes feel best when they're answered, not abandoned.
Pro tip
Modes are a lens, not a rule. Trust your ear for whether the new color serves the story of the song.
